President Seelye

L. Clark Seelye was President of Smith College from 1873 to 1910. The small size of the College and the teaching and administrative demands of being president meant that Seelye was in close contact with the Smith students in a way most college presidents cannot be today. He was a much beloved man, and many of the students maintained life-long contact with him after graduation.
